Joy Walker (Tisha Campbell) is a devoted, single mother who has spent her entire life taking care of everyone but herself, from her church, her community and, above all, her teenage basketball phenom son Chaz (Jaden Lucas Miller). When tragedy strikes and Chaz is suddenly diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor, Joy is faced with battling doctors, tackling bills and forced to join forces with her ex, Royce (Charles Malik Whitfield) to navigate their new norm. As Chaz’s health deteriorates, Joy begins to realize that a lifetime of living for others has left her with no idea who she is on her own. With Royce’s unexpected support and a community determined to keep her from disappearing beneath the weight of her responsibilities, Joy begins the difficult journey of reclaiming her identity.
